Application: Nomad – Travel & Safety Companion
1. Introduction
Welcome to Nomad ("we," "our," or "us"). We are committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring you have complete control over your personal information. This Privacy Policy describes how Nomad collects, processes, stores, and protects your information when you use our mobile application and related services (collectively, the "Service").
By accessing or using Nomad, you agree to the practices outlined in this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with any part of this policy, please discontinue using the application.
2. Information We Collect and How We Use It
Nomad is designed with a privacy-first, on-device architecture. We do not sell your personal data or broker user information to third-party advertisers.
A. Location Information (Precise and Coarse)
- What We Collect: Approximate (network-based) and precise (GPS-based) geographic coordinates, as well as coarse country-level detection via secure IP lookup (
ipapi.co/ip-api.com) or system reverse-geocoding. - Why We Need It:
- To automatically identify your current host country and display matching local emergency dispatch numbers (Police, Ambulance, Fire, Tourist Police).
- To scope crime, hazard, and safety risk zones on the map to your active national boundary.
- To provide real-time geofence alerts when entering identified high-risk zones.
- To display applicable statutory laws, bans, legal penalties, and national public holidays for the country you are in.
- Foreground Service Disclosure: Nomad may utilize an Android foreground service with a persistent notification while active travel tracking or journey escort features are engaged. Location data is processed in real time and is never used for covert background profiling or ad tracking.
B. Travel Itinerary and Calendar Data
- What We Collect: Travel plans, dates, scheduled times, custom locations, activity notes, and categories you create in the in-app Travel Calendar.
- Storage: All calendar entries and trip notes are stored locally on your device via secure application preferences. They are never uploaded to remote servers without your explicit initiation.
C. Emergency Contacts and Medical ID Card
- What We Collect: Emergency contact names, phone numbers, relationship designations, blood type, allergies, medications, and medical notes.
- Storage: This data remains strictly stored on your physical device. In the event of an SOS activation, emergency SMS messages or phone calls are dispatched through your device's native telephony client and require your direct action.
D. Camera and Audio Data
- Camera Access (
android.permission.CAMERA): Used exclusively on-demand for real-time optical character recognition (OCR) translation of street signs, menus, and foreign documents. Camera feeds are processed in memory and are never recorded or stored. - Microphone Access (
android.permission.RECORD_AUDIO): Used on-demand for speech-to-text translation and conversation mode. Audio streams are converted to text and are not stored permanently or used for voice biometric profiling.
E. Purchases and Subscriptions
- In-app purchases or Pro tier upgrades are processed exclusively through the Google Play Billing API. Nomad never collects, accesses, or stores your credit card numbers, bank accounts, or financial payment credentials.
F. Technical and Diagnostic Data
- Crash Logs & Performance: We may collect non-identifying telemetry (such as device model, Android OS version, and crash stack traces via Firebase Crashlytics) to diagnose technical bugs and improve application reliability.
3. Permissions Requested & Justification
Nomad only requests Android runtime permissions strictly required to deliver active safety and utility features:
| Permission | Android Identifier | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Precise Location | ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION | Geofence risk alerts, emergency coordinate sharing, and real-time mapping. |
| Approximate Location | ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION | Country-level safety rules, emergency numbers, and holiday data. |

We do not use third-party behavioral advertising SDKs or data broker integrations.
5. Data Retention and Deletion
- Local Data: Your travel calendar, itineraries, medical card, emergency contacts, and app preferences remain stored locally on your device for as long as the application remains installed.
- User Control & Deletion: You can permanently erase all locally stored data at any time by clearing application data in your device settings (Settings > Storage > Apps > Nomad > Clear Storage / Clear Data) or by uninstalling the application.
6. International Compliance

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect operational changes, new application features, or regulatory requirements. We will notify you of material changes by updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy and, where appropriate, displaying an in-app notice.
